Today’s Topic: No More Distractions

TODAY’S SCRIPTURE
After Lot had gone, the LORD said to Abram, “Look as far as you can see in every direction—north and south, east and west. I am giving all this land, as far as you can see, to you and your descendants as a permanent possession.” – Genesis 13:14–15, NLT

TODAY’S WORD
In Genesis 12, when God told Abraham to leave his country, his relatives, and his father’s house and go to the land of Canaan, he made the mistake of taking his nephew Lot with him. He knew the right thing to do, but perhaps he was afraid that Lot would be offended or others would not understand. It led to strife and division and finally a separation. It’s interesting that God didn’t speak to Abraham until after Lot left, after Abraham did what he knew he was supposed to do. That’s when Abraham stepped into the blessing.

Do you have some Lots in your life? Are you letting the fear of what people will think control you? “What if they get upset? What if they don’t understand me?” Is that keeping you from hearing the new thing God has for you? Why don’t you get rid of Lot? Get rid of distractions. Quit being afraid of people, quit letting them squeeze you into their mold. Don’t get stuck in what was. God has blessings that you haven’t seen. Increase that you haven’t imagined.

PRAYER FOR TODAY
“Father, thank You that I don’t have to let other people squeeze me into their mold. Thank You that You speak to me with directions for my life, and Your approval is all that I need. I’m not going to be pressured into compromising what I know is right to do. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

TODAY’S INSPIRATIONAL MESSAGE: Go to God and not to people. Get your value, your worth, your approval from your Heavenly Father. If you’re trying to get this from people, you’ll be disappointed. People can let you down, people have issues, things they didn’t get. It’s easy to find fault, “Why wasn’t I raised better? Why won’t my spouse encourage me more? Why won’t my friend acknowledge my accomplishments? Why won’t they give me credit?” It’s almost like, “They owe me something. I’m expecting you to give me this.” A better way to live is, “Nobody owes me anything. My Heavenly Father takes care of me.” If not, we’re dependent on people to keep us happy, our spouse to cheer us up, our friend to make us feel valued. “This coworker needs to show me respect, so I’ll feel good about myself.” Let them off the hook. Quit going to people and start going to God.
